Remembrance Day ceremony Jospehites pay tribute to fallen soldiers

It was an emotional day for the Alumni’s at their Alma Mater as many of them gathered at AV room to honour Martyrs of Pathankot the fallen soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice on 2nd of January 2016 when Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists entered Indian Territory and launched an attack on the Pathankot Air Force base.

The ceremony commenced at 4.30 PM President SJA Alumni Association Praveen Chandhok gave a brief note of the Martyrs “Today, let us remember and honour the soldiers who have fought so bravely in defence, while the entire country was celebrating the beginning of the New Year, seven families lost their young sons in the terror attack, so that we might enjoy peace, freedom and democracy,” Praveen Chandhok said while addressing the gathering.

Major General Guninder Jit Singh Grewal Josephite Batch of 1975, at present posted in New Delhi was also present on the solemn occasion to pay homage to the martyrs “I call on our fellow Josphites to join me in expressing our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have worked and fought so courageously to keep us safe, today, and every day, what the troops expect is a feeling of gratitude, care and support of a grateful nation.”

Retd. Major General Chander Nandwani Josephite batch of 1957 present on the occasion told the gathering about the importance of paying tribute to those who made the “ultimate sacrifice.” And offered his services to motivate the students to join Armed Forces.

Mrs Jaswinder Grewal, w/o Maj Gen GJS Grewal accompanied him on the solemn occasion of paying homage to the matryrs of Pathankot Air base attack speaking to the gathering expressed the feelings and the hardships of an Army wife and an Army kid. She shared the emotions felt by the families when the soldiers are deployed for various duties. The fear, the anxiety and the stress that overwhelms each one of them and yet when the soldiers make the supreme sacrifice they have the courage to say that they are proud of them in spite of the being shattered by the loss. She has been awarded with Army Commander's Commendation Card for her outstanding devotion to duty as Principal ASHA School Jabalpur, a school for special kids. She is now an Internationally Certified Life Coach and a motivational speaker.

Concluding the ceremony Maj. Gen. Grewal and Maj. Gen. Nandwani along with Brigadier Surendera Kumar laid a wreath at the martyrs’ photographs, as did all the Alumni’s present on the occasion paid floral tributes and the entire gathering observed to minute silence to pray for the departed souls who made the supreme sacrifice.

Managing Committee consisting Navneet Oberoi (VP), Jatinder Bhatia (Secretary), Deepak Bakshi (Treasurer), Dr. Alok Jain, Abhinav Goel, Swabhavi Agarwal, and other Past MC Members and alumni members viz Randhir Arora, Vikas Dewan, Ambuj Oberai, Vijay Vachani, Praveen Anand, Manoj Devgan, Ashwin Gandhi, Kritharth Uniyal, Nitesh Bhatia, to name a few were present on the solemn occasion.
