Republic Day Celebrations at our Alma Mater 2017 !!!

68th Republic Day was celebrated in the school premises with enthusiasm and fervour. Major General Prem Kumar Gosain Josephite batch of 1958, presided over the function.

He was presented bouquets by Managing Committee SJA Alumni Association and escorted by other senior Alumni members and school council members. He was given a warm reception by the Brother Dennis Joseph SJA coordinators Sumeet Gupta, Simi Sirdhar, Sangeeta Sawhney and Moon Hassan and Brother Superior Benedict… the euphoria in his eyes on reaching the school campus so unmistakable…

The programme began with the introduction of Chief Guest, to commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, the Chief Guest along with Principal Dennis Joseph unfurled the tricolour flag and all the present in unison sang the national anthem and expressed the joy of freedom. Thereafter Chief Guest along with Brother Dennis Joseph was escorted to Archive/ Alumni Room by MC Members where the entire Class IV employees of Alma Mater 62 in numbers were provided blankets by SJA Alumni Associations as a token of thanks for their untiring efforts in maintaining and up keeping our Alma Mater... Chief Guest was offered high tea, sweets along with hot Samosas!

The show then shifted to Auditorium and students took the centre stage speaking eloquently to convey the importance of freedom, patriotism and nationalism. To keep alive the flame of patriotism, the students sang patriotic songs and poems a patriotic speech rendered by a student in Hindi awakened everyone’s feelings towards our motherland. Various dances by the Girls and Boys enthralled each and everyone. However the highlight being first ever cabinet meeting rendered by middle school students the enactment of Father of Nation, prominent politicians and statesman was simply outstanding…Narrators Anya Oberai and Naina Gupta were not only eloquent in both Hindi and English but simply captivating, Aryman Rai as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Tejavur Rai as Mahtama Gandhi, Taneesh Arora as Jawahar Lal Nehru left an indelible mark on the everyone present rendering constant applause from audience!

After the presentation ended Chief Guest addressed the students he was simply captivating providing and informing rather enlightening each of us with detail information on Pre-Independent India, Armed forces, our home town Dehradun and Queen of Hills Mussoorie and our very own Alma Mater we were informed that Captain Young was first inhabitant of our premises the man responsible for creating Landour which further expanded to Mussoorie, when the Patrician Society took over the premises it was housing Imperial Bank! The cantonment road Cambrian Hall School and DSOI are locates has been named a Young Road in the honour of Captain Young...

To culminate the celebrations Principal thanked Chief Guest, and rightly called him “Book on Indian History” thanked MC SJA Alumni Association, Co-ordinators, Teachers, Students and staff for their outstanding effort. As the luck would have the wife of martyred Soldier Lt. Col. Rajesh Gulati Alumni Batch of 1993 (who was awarded Sena Medal posthumously on Army Day) was among us and was felicitated by Brother Dennis honouring the Immortal Soldier who laid his life fighting the enemies...

Taking the celebrations one step ahead and to pay their respect to the school teachers who are the yardstick that measures the achievements and aspirations of the nation, the nation builders, vital component of the school and the real maker of history... SJA AA organised special one hour session on “Stroke Free Life” with Dr. Krishan Avtar renowned Neurologist founder of Synergy Institute of Medical Sciences on same day, at AV Room right after the ceremonies were over the team of attendants accompanying Dr. Krishan Avtar also performed general check up of all the teachers.

The day will be a cherished experience for all of us present….
